Biomimetic Engineering and Artificial Intelligence: A look at the changing face of engineering.
Recently we were asked to present a guest lecture on Biomimetic Engineering and AI to Engineering students at Griffith University.
It was a great opportunity to discuss some of the exciting developments in the field and engage with the students regarding the changing face of engineering. We explored biomimicry in structural, civil, aeronautical and electrical engineering applications, and discussed the shift from ‘creator’ to ‘curator’ that comes with biomimicry and AI – ‘Human-aided design’ as opposed to ‘Computer-aided Design’.
It’s an interesting time to be a budding engineer. The students are 3D printing their design models and contemplating the role of Virtual Reality in engineering – they have a lot to explore!
